Using the map

Find your way around the Map tab: houses, knock pins, lead markers, the locate button, city search and the map controls.

The Map is the first tab and where most of your day happens. It opens where you left it last time, in the style you last used.

Moving around

Drag to pan and pinch to zoom. The buttons at the bottom right are:

  • Search (magnifying glass): type a city and state, such as "Fresno, CA", and tap the arrow. The map flies there.
  • Map style (globe or map icon): switches between satellite and street view.
  • Locate (crosshair): centers the map on you.

At the bottom left, the two curved arrows rotate the map and the compass turns it back to north. Admins and managers also see a pink button there for drawing territories; see Territories.

The three bubbles at the top right are your numbers for today: knocks, conversations and leads. See What the numbers on Stats mean.

Finding where you are

The blue dot is you. Tap Locate to center the map on it. Every tap takes a fresh GPS reading, so it shows where you are now, not where you opened the app. If it can't get a fix, a message says why.

Tip: On Android, the installed SolarKnock app has its own location permission, separate from Chrome's. If you're told location is blocked, open Android Settings → Apps → SolarKnock → Permissions → Location and allow it.

Houses and pins

Zoom in to a few blocks to see individual houses.

  • Yellow ring: a house with no recent knock from your team. Tap it to open its card.
  • Colored pin: the most recent knock at that house. The color is the outcome; see the table in Logging a knock.
  • White circle with a red number: when you zoom out, pins group into circles showing how many there are. Tap one to zoom in.

You see every knock your team makes, not only your own, and teammates' new knocks appear within a few minutes. Pins cover the last 90 days. A house whose last knock is older shows as a yellow ring again, and its earlier knocks are still in the card's History tab.

Won, lost and canceled

When a lead is closed out, a slightly larger marker sits over the house: a gold check for Won, a red X for Lost and a gray X for Canceled. Tap it to open the house. See Creating a lead from the map.

Adding a house that isn't on the map

If a home is missing, press and hold that spot on the map (right-click on a computer). SolarKnock adds a scouted address there and opens its card with a SCOUTED ADDRESS banner. The address fills in by itself after a moment; if it doesn't, type it into the box. It saves when you tap outside the box.

  • Pressing close to an existing house or pin opens that one instead.
  • While houses are showing, you have to hold a little longer, to prevent duplicates.
  • Your team sees your scouted addresses; other companies don't.
  • To reposition one, open it, tap Move Pin, then drag it and let go.
  • Deleting the only knock at a scouted address removes the address too, unless it has a lead or appointment.

When no houses show up

If you're zoomed in and see no houses at all, your area's house data may not be loaded yet. A notice such as "No house data for this county yet" appears. You can still press and hold to add houses, and every knock you log there counts.
