AutoKnock audio, privacy and consent
How long AutoKnock keeps audio, how to keep a recording longer, who can listen, where recordings are processed, and the consent notice.
How long audio is kept
Audio uploads automatically while you record and stays on SolarKnock's servers while you review, so you can listen back. A nightly cleanup deletes it at whichever of these comes first:
- seven days after the recording is ready to review, or
- the night after you've submitted every door on that recording.
The transcript is kept. Once the audio is gone, the recording shows No audio in the Recordings panel, and its transcript, proposals and submitted records stay as they were.
Keeping a recording longer
- On the Auto tab, open Recordings.
- Tap Keep (the lock) on the recording.
- Choose 30d, 90d, 180d or 365d. Keep starts at 30 days, and each choice counts from the day you make it.
The recording then shows the date, for example "Audio kept until Oct 15". If your organization has a lower maximum, the audio is kept only that long. Tap Keep again to stop keeping it, and it goes back to the normal schedule. Tap Keep before the audio is deleted: once a recording shows No audio, it can't be recovered.
Who can do this: only the rep who made the recording. Admins and managers can't keep a rep's audio.
Who can listen
You can, and so can the admins and managers in your organization, from Review reps on the Auto tab (see Reviewing a rep's AutoKnock day). Other reps can't, and nobody at another company can reach your recordings.
Where your recordings go
- Your phone: audio waiting to upload, for example when you have no signal, is encrypted on the phone until it's sent.
- SolarKnock: the audio, transcripts and your walk log are stored on SolarKnock's servers.
- Deepgram: a speech-to-text service that receives the audio and turns it into a transcript.
- Anthropic: Claude, Anthropic's AI model, reads the transcript together with the list of addresses you stopped at that day, and proposes knocks, leads, appointments and notes.
Nothing reaches your knocks, leads or appointments until you approve it and submit.
Recording consent
While a recording runs, the Auto tab shows "Recording — conversations are captured; consent is obtained at each door". It's a reminder of what the app is doing, not a gate.
In Quick Review, each door has a chip showing whether the homeowner was heard agreeing to be recorded: consent stated, not stated or unknown. It's a flag for you to check, and it doesn't stop you submitting. A door you only called out while walking past usually reads unknown, because no homeowner spoke.
Important: Rules on recording conversations vary from state to state, and some require the agreement of everyone recorded. Follow your company's policy and the rules where you work. If you're not sure what applies to you, ask your company. This article isn't legal advice.
